Recipe – Garlic, Lime, Cilantro Bean Salad

bean salad- garlic, lime, cilantro

If you study the healthiest people in the world, and look at what they eat, you’ll see one food on their plates, often – beans.  Use your favorite canned or dried beans in this dish, and be generous with the cilantro.  I like to crush the garlic because it imparts more flavor. Continue reading

Recipe – Granola: Vegan, Nut Free, Gluten Free

This recipe is a mix of my favorite Granola found at Me & Ollie’s in Portsmouth, NH and healthy “cookies” my hair stylist at Balayage in Hillsdale, NJ made.  I made it vegan and nut free for my son, without any sacrifice in taste. (If you have nut allergies proceed with caution with the coconut oil and seeds. My son has tree nut allergies but is not allergic to the coconut oil and seeds.) Continue reading

Recipe – Ziti with Sausage and Broccoli

One of my favorite tasting, and most versatile foods in recipes is sausage.  There’s nothing like a good quality pork sausage, but if you want to change it up try chicken sausage, which is a tasty alternative to pork.  I get both kinds from Greensbury Market, an online modern-day market specializing in Continue reading

Recipe – Marinara Sauce

Recipe – Chopped Tuna Salad over Greens

Occasionally I crave the tuna of my childhood, sans the extra mayo, served with some health along with that traditional taste.  Recently, on a late Sunday morning, I made this salad that each of my 3 kids gave a thumbs up to – victory. Continue reading

How to Find the Best Tomatoes, Year Round

I have a confession to make.  I’m a food snob when it comes to tomatoes, and well, most foods to be honest.  For example, I wouldn’t think of eating a “fresh” tomato in February.  It was probably shipped from California or Mexico, I’m in NJ, looks round and red like a tomato, but tastes like cardboard with about as much nutrition. Continue reading
